Farmers || Future

Hi all.

I just wanted to get a discussion started on how many people left the farm to go to school and have to work a city job and realize how much they miss the farm. I graduated from college two years ago, and got a city job, which I like some days, but hate most. I would rather be right back on the farm. Every chance I get to go back to our family farm, I go for it and love every minute and don't want to leave. Right now I am setting money aside for I can purcahse a farm and get started on my own. Anyone else in the same situation, and how do you handle your withdrawls from the farm..

Hey Matt,
I will be graduating this spring and cant wait to get back to the farm. Though I wont be farming right a way I have found a good job selling Garst seed. I will still be able to help out with the family farm untill I have enough captial to start farming.

Hey Matt i understand completly, im a junior in college at the moment and have 4 semesters left. I make trips home just about every weekend to help out. I have around 380 acres of rented and owned farmground and run 17 head of cattle that dad helps take care of, its tough to go home and then head back sunday night to a place i really dont want to be. I also work a day job during the week at college and man do i find myself thinking about what i could be getting done on a tractor. But i know that once i graduate and have my degree it will all be worth it. Im Agronomy major with a business minor, and know what i learn now we will contribute down the road.

That sounds great. I have only been a visitor to the farm for two years now. I am saving money and paying some debt down before I make my purchase to buy a farm. I am really excitited for it and wish it could happen right now.. Do you have any suggestions, that helped make your dream a reality?

yes, I was a vistor for 16 years after college. We started two years ago with 260 acres and a six row planter. Next year we should be 460 acres and hopefully not a six row planter. :) My goal is to farm 1000 acres and keep my day job. Use the proceeds to own my 1000 acres clear.
