i was woundering if anyone has used pavement for their bunker silo floors i have a section of old roadway that i've used for a bunker and i seems to hold up fine the silage acid doesnt eat at it like cement does. just woundering if anyone has done this and what the cost and prep.. work would be compared to cement. i need to expand my bunk this year and wanted to know which direction i should lean to thanks

Jeremy - look at a few of the back issues of Hay&Forage grower magazine (you can see them online - cant remember their address, but I'm sure you can find it) They had an article about asphalt over this last winter I beleive. JW

I personally use upright silos but know of one farmer that put asphalt down (maybe 6 yrs ago) where he filled his silage bags and liked it so much he expanded 3 yrs ago. another farmer used asphalt in his baled hay shed and in his comodity type bunk for his potato and bean waste dump area and heard no conpaints from him. Site preps about the same except you would need forms for concrete. early fall i herd concrete in out area is to take a price hike but havnt heard anything snce. asphalt price is going to fallow oil. 2 or 3 years ago asphalt was cheeper, but i don't know any specific numbers. hope this helps a bit
