It's all about the climb

When you’re at the bottom of the mountain, looking up at your goals and dreams, you know there’s only one way to go. But when you’re standing proudly on top, you can either

firmly stand your ground, or fall off. I refused to let myself fall,

however it seems that God’s plan had other intentions. Maybe he was

trying to tell me “slow down my child, you’re moving too fast, it’s time

to see things in another prospective, but do not fear for I will…

The battle of the buldge...my battle with fair food

I spent most of my summer traveling around the state of Wisconsin promoting agriculture at county fairs in Jefferson, Dane, Waukesha, Ozaukee, county fairs as well as the State

fair. While memories wander throughout my day dreams, my nose and

stomach are tempted by the smells of roasted sweet corn, turkey legs,

cream puffs, cotton candy and pulled pork sandwiches. If you let me, I

could and would eat them all…

For my club, my community, my country, and my world.

During the finals for the 2010 Dodge County Fairest of the Fair, I was asked to answer an impromptu question which was, how can we encourage more kids to stay active within their 4-H and FFA Clubs when it may

not considered to be popular? As I stood there on stage I could not help but think, this is the perfect question for me! I feel that I embody the not always popular but dedicated 4-H’er.

Growing up I was the typical 4-H…

The Power of Agriculture

This year the theme for Pierce County’s 2010 Farm Technology Days was, “the power of agriculture” and no other theme could have been more fitting than this. I had the pleasure to

work on the publicity and promotional committee from October of 2009 to spread

the word as well as organize our media day prior to the event in July. What most people do not know is that this

three day out door farm show which travels around the state each year takes

three years…

Summer Memories at the Fair

The morning of July 7, 2010 I walked onto the grounds at the Jefferson County fair and almost immediately, nostalgia set in as I took a deep breath and fried food along with other familiar smells filled my nose. For young agriculturist like me, the annual county fair is not just another week long summer activity in which you get to go on rides, eat cotton candy and see the animals. For me…

In the defense of Ag

It was just another hot summer night in Wisconsin, me and my friends were sitting out in the garage listening to the Rollin Stones and enjoying an ice cold beverage. My friend’s 80 year old neighbor was out for her evening walk and decided to stop by to say hello. I was introduced as, “This is Danielle, she’s a student at the University and she studies…

Follow me as I begin promoting Agriculture with the Wisconsin Soybean Association!

American Agriculture has always been the backbone of my family, and I am proud to say that I am the 5th generation to grow up on our farm outside of Beaver Dam, WI. My parents have become innovators within the industry and have not only produced food to provide for our family, but also for the world. They have supported my growth as a young woman within the field of agriculture which is why I carry the passion for continuing the legacy of farming.

In a world where many people…

Just when I thought I lost it all.

Three years ago I was living in Pontlevoy, France at a 1,000 year old Abbey when I thought I was right where I wanted to be. I fell in love with a Dutch man and migrated to Amsterdam with a person I had known for only a few months. Determined to live the city life in Europe, I completely disregarded my roots and forgot where I came from, a farm in rural Wisconsin.

When we decided to move back to the US together, I enrolled back in University of Wisconsin River Falls to study…

You've got to fight for your right...Against HSUS!

Recently we have seen the HSUS increase their efforts in Wisconsin and around the country to "Abolish animal agriculture". Farming is the way of life for many of us in Wisconsin, and I think that everyone on this site can agree that we are passionate about farming, after all it is called Farming for the Future. HSUS is becoming too strong of a force, they are determined to put agriculture out of business and we as agvocates must stand up for what we love. Most consumers do not understand the…

In defense of chemicals

I just presented my issue panel in my Environmental Issues class where I defended the use of chemicals in Agriculture. It went something like this...

When you hear the word “chemical” what do you think of? I guarantee most of you are thinking about negative impacts chemicals cause for example cigarettes. As an Ag business major and future farmer, in the agriculture world, chemicals are used to help us produce high yield crops for the…

Angry with Environmental Studies

In order to graduate with a degree in International Relations I have to take a course called, ESM 105 or Introduction to Environmental Studies. This class is turning out to be a anti-agriculture class and a real pain in my a$$. As a matter of fact, today was not the first time I had a problem with topics and claims my professor made. One of our topics was on agriculture and land use, here is what our notes read:

1. Under the Topic: Increase…
