Technology in Agriculture

Greetings fellow aggies! I hope this harvest season treated you well (or still treating you well) and brought you a bountiful harvest. I recently wrote a guest blog post on Michele Payn-Knoper's blog

http://www.causematters.com/agriculture/technology-in-agriculture/.

I am really interested in the groups thought on this topic. What do you see in the realm of technology that will have an impact,… Continue

Local Food, Locavores & Hungry People: Looking Beyond Your Food Plate

Our family happily picked apples last week in an orchard 20 miles away, where we managed to taste Fuji, Yellow Delicious, Roma and Red Delicious on a bright Autumn day. We do the same with blueberries in July. We purchase eggs from our neighbor. We grow our own herbs, raspberries and vegetables – our family spends many hours in the garden to grow our own food. We also purchase beef from a local farm, enjoy pork burgers from the next county over and would love to find a lamb to buy. We enjoy…

It's all about the climb

When you’re at the bottom of the mountain, looking up at your goals and dreams, you know there’s only one way to go. But when you’re standing proudly on top, you can either

firmly stand your ground, or fall off. I refused to let myself fall,

however it seems that God’s plan had other intentions. Maybe he was

trying to tell me “slow down my child, you’re moving too fast, it’s time

to see things in another prospective, but do not fear for I will…

Making Science Sexy

Now that I have your attention, we’ll spend the next three paragraphs discussing the merits of the USDA’s decades-long research on the efficacy of comprehensive nutrient management plans (CNMP), BMP and how it is encouraged by NRCS. That’s not exactly effective, unless you’re a farmer looking into how to manage manure to add organic material to your soil. Not of great interest unless you’re working with farm animals. Since this is less than 1.5% of the U.S. population, I might…

Farmers and Ranchers: Do You Need an Outdoor Monitoring Camera?

Farmers and Ranchers know that their work is very busy and very time consuming. Many times they wish that they could be in two places at once. Having said this, there is an ever growing need for these farm and ranch owners to have some sort of video surveillance or outdoor monitoring cameras system available to them.

These systems are valuable on many different levels. Farmers and…

K2 Y2 corn out/farm sold/farm 2 buy??

The corn sure ended up as a dissapointment. No rain from Jul4th to Aug 15 just did it in I suppose. We will be lucky to make 150 bushels when the last ticket is tallied. Since I have 165bu per acre sold I will get the pleasure of buying back the difference above the 4.30 Dec futures I sold. Of course that mean todays down 30 is a good thing in some strange way.

We havent started beans but I was home and delivered a few loads of corn to the elevator. The beans in line looked…
