Why don't all you cry babies build grain bins? I feel grain storage is the basics of any farms infrastructure. I had to wait 3 times this harvest for my truck to make it back to the field... and i am talking 15 minutes top....i was getting pretty ...
well i am happy for you. in all honesty most experianced farmers could list about as much as you did. my big decisions were planting all soybeans because it got so late--i am completed in harvest while the neighbors have corn at over 25% moisture ...
bullshit!!!! a 4030 had more weight to it than a wuss ass 6415. the soil type and terrain mean everything though... and if its no-till... absolutely not. as a matter of fact... if it could barely pull it- you would hate yourself at the end of the ...

i will agree with the social media to an extent. In the past i have written for farm week and agrinews here in illinois. i have had suppliers "looking" for me. on occasion i was given machinery to demonstrate and seed to try.... for a hopeful posi...

Brett Emmert said… - Yes its that dusty out here. People call our dust moon dust because its so fine and of course nice ground up chaff from the combine doesn’t help any either. The screen is still in there, all that extension does is make it get its air from above the dusty mess below. It makes a BIG difference and on older steel cat tractors out here, you see this odd looking triangle thing bolted to the nose. That forced it to get its air from above as well and kept it from sucking in the dust that the forward part of the tracks kicked up. We only get at most 19 inches of rain fall a year here if that gives you any idea as to how dusty it can be.

It is a "must have" once you have the confinement. And the slurry from the digester is ready for fertilizing the farm.No smell!

Shannon said… - We start prepping the ground in early March and, ideally, start planting corn in late March. Like you were saying, if it's too wet we have to wait until April. We like to be done planting corn around mid April. We start planting beans in early to mid May and can keep planting until July. We double crop beans behind wheat, so we're usually done planting them in early July. We like to be done harvesting corn by mid October and we usually finish harvesting beans around mid November.
It sounds like you stay pretty busy, farming and real estate! I wish you luck with that new land! I know it can be annoying cleaning up land that used to have trees on it. We've had to get rid of some stumps before and can get a little irritating.

MICROFARMER said… - You are not all that far from me. I am just south of Sesser. That really sucks on the barns. I was looking at all types of barns. I am looking to modify an old corn crib/feed barn. I has one lean to. gonna add a second and a new roof. might be putting up a barn. i have enough trusses for a 24x40, A buddys big barn collapsed under the snow load. metal is shot but i think i can use the poles and some of the 2bys. If nothing else those poles will make good corner posts for the some 4h cattle later on.

- That would suck to lose that many acres. i dont rent much but dont stick my neck out to much either. I try to only finance what i can pay off with my limited acres.
Wish i had my tractor paid off. Hopefully this year that'll happen. Then I'll start looking for a new to me baler or a barn for more hay storage. Storage pays with hay and grain.
Sounds like you are on the right track. Dad always says what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Sounds like you are getting stronger.

- Nothing wrong with getting a bonus for doing things right. You said you were almost 100% notill, are you still that way or did you have to do a lot of tillage this year to fix ruts and dry things out? i help the neighbor farm and this year was tough on the fuel tank with all the tillage. Most years we just run the aerway/phillips harrow combo and then plant. Most is HEL ground so that's about all they'll let us do.
