Just wanted to introduce myself.. I run a cow/calf operation and do excavating business on the side.  I have went to university and then college taking agriculture at both.. Now I have moved back home to our farm and have a 10 month old baby girl..I am the fifth generating and my young daughter is the sixth generation on our farm.  As a young farmer it is always hard trying to choose the correct path to go on that is why it helps to learn from others experiences.

Thanks

Well, this is the 1st year we have had to deal with scours to the degree we had it. Of the calves we lost, some were laid on but most of it was e coli in the mud. It was extremely wet this year and our calving pen quickly turned into a slurry. We weren't aware we had to scourgard the established cows and only vacc'd the heifers. Not making that mistake twice, I tell you! I didn'tth  know textbook signs of scours either, which now I do... I was very ill for a month from a cold I had caught. It was just not a good season! We used round up ready corn last year for silage and I think that caused some immunity issues to scours while this years calf crop was in utero... gotta love chemicals, thanks, Monsanto! This year we went with a seed corn that wasnt round up ready and went with fertilizer from terrabioticsinc.com. I have a feeling my hubby is going to do culltivating for weed control this year.

Hey Brad!

We had a brutal spring at Hollman Farms. I want to cry just typing about it. We lost 11 calves, mostly to scours, a cow that laid down and couldn't get her feet back under her and a 2 year old bull that broke his hip. I wanted to give up and sell all of the cattle.

Dug most of it out with the backhoe that's sitting there.  The exhaust on the tractor... yeah that happened harvest last year.  One of our hands took off in the combine before the buggy tractor was clear and the combine auger hit the exhaust.  Are we the only ones struggling to find good help these days??

Hey Brad!
Finally great to meet someone from the area.
Thanks for the advice... but it looks to me, in this day and age, it'll be pretty hard to start a farm without bein in debt (money, about the only thing that turns me off of farming)
Perhaps you met my dad? He works for McDougall Acres.
We'll have to meet for a coffee sometime.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Brad, thanks for the message. I'm not sure if you're looking for or getting rid of the manuals for the DX7.10 and 7145 but if you're getting rid, I'd be pleased to make you an offer for them both. I don't have either. Please let me know if you require these manuals or are wanting to dispose.

regards

Brian
