Newbrough Family Farms

It is what it is!

I live in North Central Missouri where my family farms 1200 ac of corn, soybeans and wheat. We also raise 100 head of black and red angus cattle. I farm with my brother and father. I think farming is the best job in the world. I like nothing better than to combine for three days and nights with no sleep and then to sit in that shed when the rain finally comes enjoying the sound of the falling rain and the taste of that ice cold beer for a job well done.

I believe in a hard days work and loyality to family and friends. I have some of the best friends a man could ever ask for. I learned how to be a man from my family and I hope I can be half the dad to my son and daughter as my father has been to me.

It is the middle of May and we are half done with soyben planting. We have not planted one single seed of corn. Our fields we were going to plant corn in have been wet all spring long. We started planting beans the last week of April and have planted about 500 ac.

I started last monday planting beans about 6PM. I planted all night long and finished with the 200 ac farm about 8AM the next morning. I moved the rig to another farm about 20 miles away. My dad started planing while I took… Continue

2009 A Year for the Books.

Posted on April 28, 2009 at 2:00pm 5 Comments

I am new to this whole blog thing but I thought I would give it a try. I titled it a year for the books because I can already see the way the year has started it will not be a "normal" year.

A little background about our farming operation, my dad Carl started farming in 1964. My brother and I have tried to take over most of physical labor end of the farm as dad is 77 years old now and wears out pretty quick. But my dad works 7 days a week, it keeps him young. We farm 1200 ac of row… Continue

Hey, sorry I didnt get ya called back the other night. I been planting milo and finishing up combine maintenance....and needless to say its been a little crazy. Well, I'm in the middle of buying a tandem, and have bought a cheap combine trailer. So I'm a little more mobile this year. I'm still booked for NE colorado and SE Wyoming this summer. If I catch hold of a job where I need another machine and you're serious about cutting somewhere, I'll let you know. Or if you stumble upon something that you want to try and cut let me know, I'll see what the timings lke from where I am. Well take care, I don't know if I saved your number the last time we talked, but I'll look for it. ttyl

Hey Shane, I saw you were from Moberly and thought I would say hi. I live in Ashland and work for my father-in-law and brother-in-law on their family farm. We also clean soybeans and wheat for MFA. Anyways, good to see someone else that lives close. It sure has been a wet spring, hope your season goes well.

Hey good to hear from ya, I cut a circle of corn last week that stayed under 18 the whole way through. Probably be back in corn by next week sometime. Started planting wheat 6 hours after the half inch of rain this morning on our sand and got nearly half of our 1000 acres planted already! Lol I love running drills all night! Especially brand new air seeders behind an 8530 lol! Find any work for that 650 yet?

How was the yields up there this year? and what is an average yield up there?
