gps apps for smartphone

Was curious if anyone had good or bad experience with gps for spraying, spreading fertilizer, or soil sampling. I have just saw a app for android from sush it looks like it is european based as it is in metric. I would tend to think these new phones may be capable of doing lightbar type guidance.

looking for a pump and manifold setup.  Any ideas where to look?  I have a small poly tank and a twelve volt pump just need to meter the liguid to the keetons. I have a old 6 row cyclo and looking to put down about 4 gallons per acre and plant at 3.5 mph.  With those numbers I calculated I need about .12 gallons per min.  across 6 rows.  I am unable to find any info on flow rates for keetons or pressures needed.  Any help?See More

Open pollinated corn over 100 bpa

I just finished picking my test plot of open pollinated corn.  I chose to pick by hand as it was only a 1/3 of an acre.  I feel as though the amish do not get enough respect, it was alot of work.  I picked it as I will be shelling and sorting it to hold back for seed.  That is the best part of open pollinated being able to keep your own seed.  I even have spiked some local interest in buying seed from me.  I was impressed with half the plants as they had good size ears and many even multiples…See More

government farming

I am at a loss for words as to how many young farmers beleive govt. farm programs help.  Govt. meddling in our markets is what causes the roller coasters.  As we see these all time high commodities we also have many high inputs.  Yes many are far better off today then 8 or 10 years ago but will they be in 2 or 3 years?  As a youngster I grew up in agriculture and can not imagine any older farmer bragging about taking advantage of ldp or set aside payments.  In fact I specifically remember…

open pollinated corn

Posted on June 13, 2012 at 6:08am 1 Comment

Yes I am a little crazy I have planted a trial of open pollinated dent corn.  I am in the the southern thumb of Michigan and we have limited growing days as well as having heavy clay soil so our normal corn yields are around the 150 mark most years.  I can remember in 91 in our area the good corn was about armpit high at harvest.  I am in a unique position as I feel strongly against gmo crops.  Normal hybrids are ok, but with open pollinated I can choose to keep back seed and I can also…
