THEY CALL ME MICROFARMER.

I picked up that nickname because I am the smallest farmer acreage wise in the neighborhood. (You got to start somewhere right?) I raise timothy and alfalfa with row crops thrown in the rotation. I do some custom work for my neighbors like hay and pick a little ear corn if someone wants some. I am a Wyffels seed corn dealer also.

I am a single parent of a 12 year old named Noah. He loves farming. He can't wait to get home from school to farm. He even stays in at recess sometimes to get his work done so we can help with harvest.

I have my 2 year Ag Business degree from Rend Lake College. I am attending Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I am a Farm Business Management major graduating in May 2011.

I am always willing to talk forages and would like to network with others interested in forages. Drop me a line!

Thanks for looking,
Micro Farmer

Hey there! I couldn't help but notice your tagline at the top of the page about forages. In January I will be getting my Master's in Ruminant Nutrition with an emphasis in forages. Just interested in what all you do and what kind of farming you're into...

i havent tried it on corn yet but plan too. i have seen many acres of twin row corn here but most of it is furrow irrigated. the beans i have on twin rows are very good looking. i have been extremely pleased. the rows are about 7 inches apart with 30 inch middles

Your welcome, glad you guys enjoyed them. Only wish you were able to see them in person because the pictures don’t do the topography justice. For the most part it is just wheat in rotation with summer fallow. Summer fallow is big out here, so much so that each year half of each farm is in production and half is in summer or chem/fallow. On my farm we are flat compared to most of those pictures and we are able to rotate with green peas or dry peas, with summer fallow mixed in, but that is about the extent of crops with exceptions from time to time with guys who have irrigated valley ground.

Greetings MICROFARMER,
In some of your previous posts you talked about your bale accumalator. What has you experience been with this piece of equipment? What configuration do you use? Could you use the grappler fork on a small skid loader? Any additional info would be appreciated. TIA Brian

please send us all you can we need it terribly. Its just finally getting warm enough here that the alfalfa and wheat are starting to green up and grow. Its a good 3-4 weeks before our first cutting and before we see any heads on the wheat. Our corn will be in on time our main concern is having to irrigate it up funny how a thousand miles changes everything lol

lol with our low humidity its almost just as hard cuz we actually have to be fortunate to have some dew so we can put up hay usually its too dry or we can only bale a couple hours at a time requires being up all night and day during haying to hit just the right moment we did get some snow but not near enough first moisture we got all spring

We got started planting last Friday, still fertilizing in front of the planter...but things are going good. Been gettting pretty darn cool at night. Hope to see some warmer wind free days...cant get much spraying done when the wind is blowing like it has been.
