VIP Farms

We live in God's County (aka Franklin County, Iowa) where we raise corn, soybeans and hogs. Ian is the 4th generation to farm in his family. Besides having our own rented acres and hogs, we also farm with Ian's dad.

We've both have had a passion for agriculture our entire lives. Ian grew up a mile and a half from where we live now, on a corn, soybean and hog farm and Val grew up near Stanhope, Iowa on a corn, soybean, hog and sheep farm. Even though our paths crossed growing up through 4-H and FFA, we really met at Iowa State where we both graduated - Ian in Ag Business and Val in Ag Communications.

We are happy to be living and working on our family farm, meeting others involved in agriculture, and enjoy getting involved with different ag and community groups - Farm Bureau, Iowa Soybean Association, Extension Council & 4-H, Make A Wish and church.

We'd love to hear from any of you. We are ready to start the new year and can't wait for Spring!

Finished Harvest Before the Snow

We are happy to announce that we finished this year's harvest on December 5th, which luckily was a few days before a big snow storm. Our big saying for this fall is that this fall is a fall we want to forget but will never be able to forget. Now that harvest is done, we have been cleaning up and storing equipment, preparing our taxes and getting ready for the end of the year. We're slowly getting into the Christmas spirit, just today we took our Christmas photo and over the past weekend Val star… Continue

Can't believe it is already November

Can anyone believe it is November already? We already taste Thanksgiving dinner in the combine... We know most of you are in the same boat, harvest has been moving slowly for us. We are not quite half done with harvest but are looking forward to a good long week of being able to be in the field. Last week we ran into probably every obstacle we possibly could - it started with Ian twisting and spraining his foot, Ian's Mom had surgery, then our combine broke down, then Ian's sister had an emergen… Continue

It's beginning to look like Fall

It has been awhile since we've been able to get on here, and now it is past Labor Day and things are starting to look more and more like Fall. Sure, the weather has been making it feel like Fall for awhile but finally within the past week our crops are starting to turn. Our crops are looking pretty good - we've been very lucky that we've missed all the bad hail that has seemed to hit both to the west, east and south of us. Now that the crops are starting to turn, we are also noticing some pocket… Continue

Can you believe it is July!

We can't believe it is already July! Our corn and beans are coming in fine. We had some wind damage a couple weeks ago and were just thankful that the wind didn't come with hail, like it did in other areas of Iowa. Over the 4th of July weekend we went to a wedding in East Central Iowa and we are jealous of how good the crops look over there. We bet corn will be tasseling in less than a week in areas there.

This month is filling up for us. This month we start our term as the North Central Iowa r… Continue

We finished planting!!!

We are happy to announce that we finished planting yesterday! We finished planting corn in the middle of the week and finished planting soybeans last night. It is great to be done with planting before the Memorial Day weekend. We are especially happy to have finished last night now because it is raining this morning and there are chances of rain throughout the weekend. The rain once again will slow down our spraying time, but we are just happy we finished with all of our planting.

Happy Memoria… Continue

I had a great time visiting with you as well! Best of luck for you guys with harvest! You'll have to let me know how the rest of it goes. I had a good day after we left Cafe Diem. I rode with a farmer near Collins and had a great time talking with him. Thanks for letting me bounce some ideas off of you! Let me know you need any folks to speak at your winter meetings- the CEO of my company is an AWESOME presentor and he's been doing a lot of presentations lately. www.waterstreet.org He just presented at the Ag Bankers trade show in San Antonio today- check it out. :)

Hi Val- I thought I'd touch base with you and see if you're still up for a coffee at Cafe Diem? October came and went QUICKLY! How's harvest going for you guys? Are you in your new building for work? I'll be out of town all this week for work, but I'll be around next week. We should get together and chat. I'd love to learn more about the producer education you do

Hi Val, What do you do for the IA Soybean Assoc? I actually live in the subdivision in Ankeny right by DMACC. We should get together and do lunch or coffee sometime. I love meeting other folks who are passionate about agriculture. Let me know if you'd be interested- there's a nice coffeeshop next to DMACC called Cafe Diem...

Well, I am glad that your crops are looking well. Mine on the other hand need a lot of help......mainly a little drier weather and a lot of sunshine. I have mid may corn in mid july, but the rest of the crops look really well. Don't be having too much fun as I am off to Mexico next week with the United Soybean Board.
