bean harvest just got started here in Ontario 13.5% but stalks are tough. Yield is good for us on heavy clay mid 50's to low 60's but we have had a week of rain with another 3-4 days to come . As far as the corn we haven't had anybody start except...

Hi Jerry............ Blue tractors are all my wife and I have except a Versatile 555. We have 7 Fords, from a 4610 loader tractor up to a 9700(140 hp) These tractors are very cheap and easy to work on. Four out of the seven have dual power and if y...

can't go wrong with CIH. I run a red one and love it! Specialty rotor is the way to go for corn, beans, canola and for thrashing cereals but if you want to save the straw for baling a standard rotor is a little more forgiving. Got mine with about 80...

Hi Don.......... Here in Ontario, I'm one of the lucky ones(at least in my area),only counted 4-5 aphids in a 25 foot stretch. Two miles away some people had upwards of 200 aphids in a 10 foot stretch. Luck was really on my side! No soy rust in our...

You're right about the prime land being used for these projects. I live only 30 minutes from the West Carleton Project and can hardly believe what changes have taken place on this property! The corn and soy crops on this farm were some of the best...

I run a 1440 IH and a 750 Massey and both are over 4000hrs. We put about 1000 acres through each one/year. Our repair bill usually runs around 3000-4000/year(mostly the Massey) The IH is pretty simple and easy to work on and pretty much bomb proof

And I thought 7 inches in 12 hours was to much!!!!!!!!!!

Crops look ok,but are behind because of all the rain and cool temps. Corn is 5-6 feet, beans are a foot to18 inches, with some flooded out areas in both crops. Cereal crops look the best and seem to be on track(approx.3 weeks to harvest) Calling for...

Hi Dale......... I can feel your pain, same thing happened to me in 2002 except from July 10th on I never got a drop of rain until September 19th. I had corn that was 9-10 feet tall and not a cob(120 acres), the soys were a wash and my spring wheat...

Good thing that they aren't really that tall, because it might be a bit of a tangled mess to try and combine

Hi Kevin,

Yes the trees are full of apples, and we have rasberries, blueberries, strawberries and gooseberries. It is prime blueberry season and they are pretty good this year. The corn, toms, pepers, pumpkins, asparagus, butter nut squash, shuash and zukes are not doing as well. We have a lot of rain this year, and not much sun. Fingers crossed. How is all on your end?

My husband is still away on orders, but I have everything under control :)

Best, Jennifer

PS. Thanks for asking

That field was doing about 80 bu. As steep as it looks in the pics, the pics don’t truly do it justice. That was also what is considered only kinda steep, my buddy who was driving said that they were even to the butt pucker stuff yet. His Gleaner does REALLY well with out a leveler.

Hi- Yea we had a tornado hit our place last summer. It is our 5th one and this was just some of the damage. Good ol' Iowa weather. I'm not sure on the exact count of the combines but there were close to 100. We farm about 1500 acres of corn and soybeans. We have a few acres in pastures and alfalfa but not too much of that up North. That's mostly southern Iowa....And We are GREEN or go home!

Wow!!! There is nothing better then hard work and knowing that you did it all... We are also doing the same thing I am a RN by day, my husband is a trooper and in the military. So when he is gone all the chores fall on me, and I can say that by 19:00HRS I am ready for bed with the 05:00AM wake up, I know that is late but I do have to get up sometimes at 04:00. I would change nothing, and I feel that is the best way for a child to grow up, they learn respect, displine, challenge and to be proud and simple. We are simple people, live simply and love the simple things in life..... Jennifer

WOW!!! 700 acers that is our dream, we are at 60 acers, with the option to expand and buy another 37. We are going slow for that exact reason. We are saving and putting as much money away as we can, Our friend in VT has a HUGE farm and has been giving us pointers, plus my family are Dairy farmers, with the veggies and cows, pigs, chickens.... I will take any advice that I can get and want to thank you for sharing it with me... We dont have a lot of debt but would love to get it paid off, how did you do it in 5 years? Happy 4th of July!!!
