"Your shed could be too well ventilated. Too much draft will cause the calf to get a chill. Make a "box" for it with bales or something to eliminate the draft. If the calf has a high temp, banamine (flunixamine) will take care of that maybe…"

If we don't find something this year, we will stay on the rental farm and extend our lease to 5 or 7 years.

Hi Grant,
Thanks for the information! We are very new to all of this. We have a lease on a farm just inside the Bourbon County Line on Paris Pike. We would much rather buy our own place to build a dairy on but can't find the right price/acre yet. Someday... For the time, we will be building/operating here in Paris.

Have you been to your FSA office? I think Lexington's is out on Leestown Pike... David Duke works there on the Farm Program side, so he may be able to tell you about the MILC program or DELAP programs that benefit dairies. there is also a Farm Loan officer that works out of that office too if I'm not mistaken. whoever that is should be able to tell you about low interest operating loans or farm ownership loans. what part of fayette county do you farm in? I lived there for 5 years.
