REBEL ACRES FARM

REBEL ACRES FARM is a small family farm in Southwest Georgia. We started out about 4-5 years ago with an overgrown kudzu patch. The farm is about 700 miles away from where we actually live. We have been commuting back and forth on long weekends, holidays and short vacations to improve our farm. We now have about 14 acres that we planted last spring for hay to feed to our 10 horses, 13 (and growing) goats, 1 cow, 1 pig, numerous chickens and guineas, 1 turkin and 4 barn cats. We have about 20-30 fenced acres for the horses, goats, cow and pig. A few acres in planted pines and the rest is hardwoods with a creek running in the bottom. We will be putting in our first garden this year. We are going to try and keep it organic. We have partnered with some friends and purchased a small herd of cattle with a registered Hereford bull. Our goal is to improve our farm where we may be self-sufficient and earn a small living doing what we love to do ---- work on our farm.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I farmed a few hay fields a few years ago when I worked for a family in central new jersey and saw nice quality improvements in the grass between first and second cutting by applying commercial fertilizer. However, the volume increase was negligible. I do have a friend that uses chicken manure on their operation with nice results. I just am honestly not sure where I would obtain a substantial amount of chicken manure in my area at this time. I will have to investigate.

Thank you for the comment.... your pictures are wonderful. Hope you get some rain.... we really need some SUN and WARM weather... it was down in the 40's last evening.... BRRR... a little too chilly for corn. How long does it take for you to commute from your home to your farm?

great pics as well Deborah...you're living my dream life ;)...I sell farmland, ranchland, & recreational land for a living...spent some of my younger years living on a farm and helping out with the 'chores'...just waiting for the right opportunity to move back into farming for myself ;)
