If you have 1 ton of 2-10-40 dry fertilizer, how many actual pounds of N, P, and K are you getting? I asked my dad, he doesn't know. He called his buddy, he doesn't know. I didn't think this was a…Continue

Farmer Meteorologist

About Me:

I graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with my Bachelor's of Science degree in Broadcast Meteorology in December of 2009. I completed my internship at WTOV-9 in Steubenville, OH the summer before. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I enjoy farming.

I've lived on a farm all my life and I'm the 6th generation in my family to work on our 96.6 acre farm in Southwestern Pennsylvania. We grow corn, soybeans, oats, wheat and alfalfa/timothy/smooth brome grass hay. Right now I'm the hay & wheat guy. I sell small square bales to folks who race horses. My main goal is to eventually get my own farm.

My fleet of equipment includes a 1979 White 2-105, a 1974 Oliver 1755, a 2004 NH 169 hay tedder, a 2006 Vicon Andex 653 double rotary rake, a 2006 NH 570 small square baler, and four Steel Gap Hill 18ft hay wagons.

Other than that I am a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan, West Virginia Mountaineer fan, Jeff Gordon fan, and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

"IMO, the most important thing is to understand what you're planting, and plant it at a population that is going to allow it to succeed.  If you're planting a fixed-ear hybrid, you have to give it some population in order for it to…"

We tried a semi-flex corn hybrid this year for the first time and its done very well compared to the other fixed ear hybrids we planted. Just wondered if anybody had any thoughts on one versus the other. Is it a bad idea to plant all flex/semi-flex hybrids in one year? Also wondered if its a bad idea to plant the same hybrid in the same field two years in a row. Thanks.See More

A weatherman with a White!  Now you just can't beat that Dave.  I spend a week in Pa every summer doing a consulting project, your ground sure looks familiar.  I have a friend who knows that tractor inside out if you ever have a problem.  We both like to help other farmers.

finally!!!!!!!!! someone else that isn't ashamed to say that Jeff Gordon is their boy in racing!!!!!!!!!! read about the problems you're having with deer, i'm not sure about PA, but here in ohio we can file for nuisance permits through the game warden and legally shoot em whenever and however we want. we were having problems with deer on our farms and we filed for a permit and now we're allowed to take 25 deer/year in whatever means we want. a semi-auto SKS works awesome! ;)

Yea i also love how they sound, our family use to own 3 other ford tractors 8N, 2N, and we had a Jubilee, when i was younger, but then my family sold them all, and we got a 3000. It was the one with the headlights in the grill and we sold it and now have the one you see in my photos.
