Wheat yields and quality

Started Jun 23, 2011 0 Replies

We are a couple weeks out from wheat harvest here in Ohio and was curious on the wheat yields in the South.  Good, average or poor?  Also, any vomitoxins arise from a wet spring? (ie head scab)  We…Continue

Started this discussion. Last reply by William Draper May 1, 2011. 5 Replies

I'm looking at buying a Massey ferguson 1805 4WD tractor off of a guy for tillage use.  It's a late 70's model with the CAT 3208 motor.  It has 3 scvs, pto, 3 point.  I've heard bad things about the…Continue

I bought a 1966 Chevy C60 last summer and love it.  It has a 14ft bed, twin hoist, 4X2 tranny, 292ci 6 cylinder and only paid 1200 for it!  I called about a 1965 cab over Chevy C60 last week and went…Continue

Daric Preston replied to MikeMcGinnis's discussion Where's this corn market going?
"I was waiting on 6 dollar corn but pretty sure that won't happen. I think there will be some corn acres switched to beans but not sure if it will be enough to get corn to 6. If it gets in the 5.50 range and I get it in the ground, I will…"

Daric Preston replied to Shaun Hamlin's discussion What is the biggest issue that you have with fertilizer costs?
"Ya they got us alright. I've tried to prepay for 28 or NH3 but last year some people got burnt as they didn't plant as much corn as intended due to the wet spring. Then they had to keep their purchases and pay storage on them. Not a good…"

"I am small operation and rent in my area has gone from 80-120 an acre to a record of 386 on a bid for cash rent. I figure you would need 180 bushel corn to break even on 386/acre rent. If prices dip, add more yield to that figure. I don't drive…"

Glad to hear you got the corn done. You won't have to decorate the combine for Christmas. Hope that tranny problem isn't a huge issue.... Merry, merry.... -- John Walter, Agriculture.com

I think theres about 2200 on the tach, but not actual. One of the best tractors JD ever made along with the 4020 in my opinion, especially for it's time. Hell, theres still alot of them in the field. Most only see light work now a days, but there are a few of us small guys around here who use it for almost everything. When I started looking for a tractor, it was no question on which one to get to do everything. Prices on this things are red hot here of late. I saw the article Machinery Pete did on 3 low hour machines including a 47 hour one that brought 58000!! About 25K more than it cost new. Mines not perfect. Looking to put some more updates on it like steps, mirrors and a chrome stack!!! I totally redid the cab when I got it. put a AMFMCD in it with remote as it's hard to adjust the radio in a bumpy field. You said you have a couple of 40 series deeres right?
