"Well the big companies won't even take a look at me being a dealer, but i like the idea that there not tied to a big company so they can buy traits from other companies and cross them into there own to create a better hybrid. In our area…"

"There is some good and bad to that. Good you have no competition from other dealers with the same brands. Ba, they may be brands that no one has heard of making it tough to move product."

"I'm been talking with reps from LG, Great Lakes and Stine right now. None really have many or any dealers in my area which would give me quite the range to work with and grow.  Any thoughts on these companies?"

"Look for a independent seed company. Wyffels, Renk,Kussmaul. These would be good opportinities to start. Do not expect to get rich as most all pay 5 to 10 dollars a bag on corn and about half that on beans."

Seed dealership

I'm thinking of adding a seed dealership to our operation to get to know some more farmers in our area and maybe someday some relationships could turn into land opportunities. Does anyone know about how much commission you earn per unit or bag and if it would be worth the time?See More

Did you ever start a custom operation to help on the farm?  I saw your post on about hogs, I know very little about hogs so I can’t help there, however I did notice that since the older generation (my dad and maybe yours as well) are not as good with technology and working with numbers, I have discovered that my most valuable position on our farm was to be working numbers to find ways to improve.  I don’t know if you are already doing that but sometimes having somebody checking numbers and making savings that way can be more valuable than starting another operation.

How is the weather in IA?  I am in south central ND and we are in the middle of a blizzard again.  It looks like we will have another late spring.
