I grew up in Hamilton County, Iowa where my family has farmed for 5 generations. My goal is that my brother and I can be part of the 6th. I currently live in Gilbert, IA and am working as a Project Engineer at small company that works in the agricultural seed industry. I spend my time going around the Midwest and helping seed companies, big and small, with all of their drying, shelling, conditioning, sizing, treating, and packaging needs. However, as many of us here were, I was born to farm.
Right now, farming for me consists of getting back to help out my Dad and Uncle as much as I can. They currently farm about 1700 acres of corn, soybeans, and alfalfa hay in Hamilton County. As the farm acquires a larger land base and the ag industry continues to flourish, My opportunity for me to join the farm gets more realistic. For now, I'm just trying to do the best to prepare myself for the first day of my new job!

To plant or not to plant today... with time ticking away, lots of rain and cold temps in the forecast it's hard to know what's best. Guess for now I don't have to choose myself :) Good luck farmers!

... of how much I want to farm! I've been so busy with my "other job" recently that I haven't been back to the farm in a while. I made the trip today to change the oil in my truck and it just made me wish I was farming full time! All in God's timing!
