Akin Hilldale Farm

HI everyone my name is Andy Akin. I live in south central IN half way between Indianapolis, IN and Louisville, KY just off of interstate 65. So if any of you northerners come down to the farm show thanks for passin through. I have been farming all my life mostly cattle, grain, and hay. After graudating from the University of Northwestern Ohio with a degree in agriculture equipment technology in 2004 I worked at a Caseih dealer for one year. After that I have been full time farming along side my dad. We about 700 acres corn/bean rotation 800 acres of grass hay, 50 acres of alfalfa. We also bale about 15,000 bales of straw a year off of surrounding farms, we custom cut and bale about 500 acres of hay ayear. We also have a 30 angus beef cow/calf herd where we feed out all the calves plus an additional 100 we feed. This year we sold about a dozen for freezer beef which this is catching on very well and looks promising for the future. I would like to expand the grain side to about 1500 to 2000 down the road. Also expand the beef cows to about 200 but pasture is limited around here.

So if anybody needs any hay, custom hay baling, or freezer beef let me know.

I hit the diesel barrel with a tractor one time because it had an oil leak and I lost steering power. I was pulling a full wagon downhill so the brakes didn't stop me in time. There was diesel all over the tractor, talk about an expensive screwup.

Hey, Andrew. Boy, I sure don't know about that one, but I'd sure like to read something like that. Have you checked Amazon.com? I also check Barnes and Noble (store or online) sometimes. Another one maybe worth a shot might be Powells.com, the site for a big bookstore in Portland, OR (my wife's from there). They have a lot of history stuff on the western part of the country there.

Let me know if you find something good and can recommend one!

Hello Seymor, IN, I'm from down here in KY just below Madison, IN. Bottle Calves around here are pretty high right now. I was just at the stockyards Monday night and the bottle calves sold there went any where from $195 - $250. Good luck on getting some!
