I am looking for useful ideas and innovations made by farmers for their own use. As a dairy farmer of 25 years I make and adapt things like many others, and some of these items are as useful as anything bought in the farm suppliers. I publish them in a magazine for UK farmers and others across the globe. Ideas as simple as making a cow halter from a single length of rope by simply making a loop at one end (the halter is easier to put on the regular ones which have to be pushed over the ears) to home made back-flush equip. for milking parlours.  If you have a useful Gizmo, please let me know!!  Mike  editor@farmideas.co.uk

I'm working on a project that is going to develop some smartphone apps aimed at assisting farmers with their environmental management (especially manure management). Are there any apps you wish you had to help you identify management actions, keep records, find educational videos/publications etc. All sorts of animal ag ideas are welcomed...I want to be sure these apps are something that people really can use. Thanks!

my brother and i are looking to expand our herd by leasing cows. from one of the adds in the hoards dairyman. has anyone done this and if so, what was your experience?

I was wondering if anybody knows of a good dairy processor to contract with for milk production in south central VA area. I was thinking about the Maola Coop does anyone have any experience with them or any others. Is there any producer that offers any kind of premium for grass based dairy other than just organic.

I recently visited a 130 cow herd which has had zero mastitis cases in two years, the result of back-flushing the clusters between cows. He built his own for £1,200 in a 20:20 parlour. Details in the latest issue of

I have a 3 month old heifer that is coughing. she has phenumona, is in a well ventilated shed, has already gotten nuflor and draxin shots and is getting worse. It is cold and raining. Any suggestions???

its a 80 cow freestall problay the early 1990s . we have all our own feed thats how we got into this barn is the guy that was renting before us went out and the feed on the bunks was ours land owner has an additonal 80 acres that we can spread manure on and or rent back from him for hay or pasture on the flip side we also provided the feed to the 600 cow dairy that my father rented out the rent check came on the first and the feed check came on the 20 as milk check deductions.
