I was wondering what you are charging or getting charged for hauling grain? I was thinking about doing some custom hauling and was trying to get a good idea of how much to charge to haul from either farm to elevator or elevator to elevator and or ethonol plant. Thanks

There is alot of factors in figuring out rates. What is the distance, how long to get loaded, how many loads can you do in a day, and how much can you legally haul.. I have seen guys who get 23cents per bu to haul 45 miles to an ethanol plant, hauling about 1800 bu.. I have also seen guy make 25cents going from the field to the local elevator that was only 8miles away..
$.18-$.20 per bushel from my field or bin at my farm to the river terminals approximately 35-45 miles away.
Alright thanks guys, i'm going to talk to a couple elavators and a local feedstore where i know the two owners. Because i want to make sure its worth my time and money.
trucking is not worth your time and momey not unless you want to sit around in line allday
I'll somewhat agree with Darin. On my operation i figure my time at management espc. grain marketing is worth more than trucking. I have the time to watch the markets closer which in return nets out more than free trucking...and no frozen air lines, long lines at the terminals, portable scales......etc. etc.

I keep hearing about long lines but the Cargill close to where I work in Dayton,Oh gets a truck through in about 25-30min. That's from the time they open their tarp to get probed to pulling out the driveway. From what I am hearing this must not happen at most places.

Are ethanol plants any quicker getting you in & out?

We currently pay 36 cents per bushel but he's hauling 40-60 miles and he hauls 900 bushel at a time. Using a tri-axle

as a otr trucker I can say do not underbid as many farmers who do this part time do.  You need to make enough to pay for fuel brakes tires as well as other repairs all while putting enough in your pocket to justify it also remember waiting for a half hour to load or unload is normal what happens when a auger breaks? also some ethanol plants have safety training you must attend annually as well as higher insurance and plates when you put somebody elses goodies in your wagon
