So, I was just shooting the breeze with a couple of guys in the office here and we got to chatting about a "Toughest farmer" competition, sort of like a reality show-type of deal.
So, what events would you include in a "Toughest Farmer" game? How many bales you can stack in a minute? How much manure you can shovel in a minute? Wrestling a steer? Let's hear those ideas!
Who can put up the most miles of barbed wire fence in a day.
Plough a field with a bullock drawn hand plough, then look back in shame.
irrigation siphon tube setting contest, who can haul the flat sprinkler tire and wheel the furthest out of a 10 ft' tall corn field
Loading a TMR mixer with a shovel. Lol little extreme but would be interesting.
The toughest farmer competition doesn't have to be all about physical labor although that would be an interesting part of the competition , I would be more interested in the business side:
Important Financial Ratio's, Balance sheet, Income statement, amount of land owned. These things will separate the men from the boys
Give me a shovel over the calculator anytime!
I'd clean house at the finance and balance sheet competition......
The feats of phyisical strength (or in my case lack there of) would kill my overall score though. :)
show a profit or cash flow your balance sheet
i think the competition should be more business sense then physical strentgh, like how well a dairy farmer can bounce back after a year of $9.00 milk.
there was a show on the history channel, last fall called Harvesting. It was a bout a group of 3 farmers that competed to harvest the most ground in one season. It showed the finacials, ups and downs and the hours it takes. It was a very good show and interesting..
