I'm interested in getting started in showing cattle, but I want a good docile breed (I'm in east Texas so there are plentiful opportunities to show these two breeds.) So my question is, in your experience, which of the two are more docile?

Thanks y'all!

Being a life long Hereford man Im not much help because I have no knowledge of either of these breeds. I would go with the Longhorns simply because I think there horns are awsome looking. When I was in highschool and college I drove a jeep that had a set of longhorns mounted on the hood that had a 4 foot spread on them.
Those would not b considered docile in the least. A purebred hereford would be a better choice. The history of range cattle is they were not handled in close quarters like the European breeds. When your up on a horse a crazy one isnt quite the same problem as on two feet and using lots of fences. A good cow thats psycho gets the truck on our place. Its too dangerous.

i personally would say neither and go with simmentals. but that's what i raise and i'm partial to them lol.
Thanks for all the advice! I'm looking into Herefords because they seem to fit my needs more. But I will definitely keep my options open for others.
I raise Angus cattle and have been showing since I was little. The Angus are good cattle and are easy to handle. Ive had really good luck in the ring with Angus cattle.

Since I started this, I've been researching several breeds, but I think I came to the same conclussion you did. I was born and raised around Angus and Holstein cattle, but since my pappaw has passed and we've stopped raising herds for the local dairies I've kinda just stuck with Angus and they seem like my kinda cow. Though my Uncle has Herefords and really enjoys them, but I don't think I'm gonna change up my herd any, unless my mama decides she wants a Dexter for family use. :)
