We were looking at a '96 664 rogator at a dealer. It has a 60 foot boom and we are looking for 80 but we thought we can add ten foot on each side. We dont really want to ask the dealer because they'll more than likely shine us on it. We have also seen similar sprayers that are 60/80 foot booms. Does that mean they have been converted. Anybody know from experience or know a good source to check out please let me know.
The 664 is a real good machine it is small and light weight 664 were made for 60' the 864 are made for 80' if I remember right all thou that vintage of agchem it could be aanything they did a lot of custom builds. Number one sugestion call Ziegler in Atlantic and ask for service reccords use serial number. Talk to service manager Bill he is a good guy and knows these machine inside and out. I would not add to the booms because the center tree would more than likly not take the weight. Look at how much you are wanting to cover how many acres a year. I know a lot of guys just want bigger bigger bigger but in your ground in those hills there are a lot of guys that perfer 60' to get around the contour rows. We run a 80' fast pull behind but we are 60 miles north in the flatland.
Permalink Reply by Tony Eickman on The reason were wanting to spray again is because we have it custom done and every two years he trades up to a newer bigger machine. Last year he had a 120' boom and 1200 gallon tank and did not contour so we had deep ruts running up and down hills. It doesn't work for minimum till like what we want. The price of custom is another factor we figured for the money you spend in custom spraying in five or so years you could buy a cheaper used sprayer. We tried a pull type sprayer for half a season and parked it. It wasn't designed for contours. The tree is our biggest concern. Even an extra ten feet on either side could drastically effect the bridge. There are a couple of farmers who want the coops to go back to the big A floaters in the spring. We'll definately call ziegler but didn't know they were in atlantic.
Yeah thats why we do our own but the flat land makes all the differance on a pull behind.
