both the 1688 and 2188 are great machines. id definitley get one with the specialty rotor if i could. thought of new holland? just bought me a 93 model tr 96. the new holland dealer in charleston ,mo treated me so good youd thought i just bought a 300,000 dollar combine.
New Holland? i have heard good things about their machines but we have one dealer and he is absolutely terrible! I have 3 gleaner dealers and even a fourth with parts....no body around here has new holland parts.ewww i can't even think about it.

have you had bad experiences with gleaner or just your agco stores? Dale
hi rod, i really like the gleaners machine . but the company as a whole not very much. Let me explain..over 10 years ago i had the worlds largest gleaner dealer located 5 miles from my farm. they got in financial trouble and agco pulled their contract. Agco never set anyone else up to take up the slack. the next closest dealer maybe hired 2 new people... so if i ever needed service there is no way i could get it.

can't go wrong with CIH. I run a red one and love it! Specialty rotor is the way to go for corn, beans, canola and for thrashing cereals but if you want to save the straw for baling a standard rotor is a little more forgiving. Got mine with about 800 hrs. on it and now pushing 4000 with very few problems, just normal things (belts, bearings etc. etc) You should drop DON ABERLE a line on this site,he's a great guy to talk to or call him at 218-233-3700 Titan outlet store
i would say the same about don he helped us with a header and has alot of inventory..specialty rotor or afx rotor and crossflow fans are the latest updates for the machines also if you are getting a header look for one with an air reel. there is a big difference on how the machine feeds. 1688 is about the same as a 2188 but the 2188 has more electronics.
In these days combines are very useful for farmers. If you have good land for cropping then you should get 2188. It is beneficial for you. Sustainable gifts
If you like Agco have you talked to CAT the Challenger machine is just a CAT powered massey.
dude!!!! did you read the earlier posts...service and dealerships are important to me....Cat is over 100 miles away and massey? your killing me
dude!! They'll come to your place and work on it! LOL Besides I thought you liked to travel? Get the massey and keep the neighbors talking!
Thats the thing about CAT the store maybe 100 miles away but I bet there is a Mechanic that lives in your area. We are 150 miles from store. But there are two mechinac that live in area and they drop parts every night. At a drop site about every 30 miles around the state.
Both are good combines. We just upgraded from 2 1990 model 1680's to a 2001 2388. There are a lot of good features on a 2188. The one thing i noticed about a 2188 or 2388 over the 1680 and 1688 is the cab design. The front windshield is rounded to the corners for better visibility over the square corners of the 1688. Mainly depends on if you want the newer style combine and the dollar amount. The big combines are close to the same price as say like a 2166. Definately get a specialty rotor. A lot of case ih combines in our area have choppers but we prefer to not have one in ours. Just depends on what your needs are for your type of fields. If your area is rocky you might want a rock trap on the combine. Just remember service and parts are a big thing. We have ran red combines for a long time. They do a good job for us and we like them. Good luck finding you a combine.
