Have a John Deere 2955, have a 540 rpm spline that we want to take out and swap in a 1000 rpm spline.  The manual is pretty simple the 1000 rpm spline is in a storage slot, and the 540 rpm is in the tractor.  Remove the ring clips and slide out the shafts and swap.  The 1000 spline came out easy out of the storage slot, but cant get the 540 spline out... have but on a coupling on the 540 so we can tap on it with a hammer but it wont budge.  We are the second owner of this tractor and suspect they probably never been swapped before... Are we missing anything? and Secrets?

no it is that simple it should omly take about 30 seconds to swap.  more than likly the 540 shaft is rusted in from never being changed.

As long as the snap ring is out it should be free put the coupler on it and get a small chain or cable hook it up to a come-a-long and pull it out that way, get some good pulling pressure on it and smack it with a hammer its just stuck.
