I bought a 1966 Chevy C60 last summer and love it.  It has a 14ft bed, twin hoist, 4X2 tranny, 292ci 6 cylinder and only paid 1200 for it!  I called about a 1965 cab over Chevy C60 last week and went and looked at it.  It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.  It has steel 14ft bed, 327 V8, 4X2 tranny, twin hoist and a cab over.  The guy wants 2000 for it.  You guys know you can't buy a 350bushel wagon for that.  Are there alot of old grain trucks cheap everywhere?  I'm considering buying this one and keeping the one I got now.  Anyone else finding good deals on old trucks?

well we bought a 66 Dodge, and a 74 chevy that are both kinda in rought shape, but the grain boxes are excellent and they run well, just the bodies of the cabs are crap. We payed 900 for the 74 chevy and 1000 for the Dodge. I think you might have a way better deal. But yeah old 6 wheeled trucks are CHEAP,,,,
We bought an 82 Ford F-600 couple years ago for 5000, had a 13' grain box, we used it to haul one summer then switched it over to just water and rock hauling and this summer we took the bed off and put a gooseneck ball on it and it is permantly attached to the bale trailer or cattle trailer.
Well in my area a good c-60 in the 1976 era...i am talking cherry may bring 5k. but if its messed up a little, things go down quickly. saturday at a large consignment auction in my area. there was about 20 big trucks there. My posse checked over many of them... We go with a standard 366 big block and a 5x2 transmission. Well the cherry ones brought the 5k and the buyers didn't even look at the others... i bought a 76' with just rust in the lower doors for $1,400. and then later bought another c-65 with a bigger and nicer bed.. but a rough cab for $1,050. yeah i got some deals. i should have a semi truck but i have multible grain systems near most farms..and anybody will drive the little trucks.

then i bought a 15' tye no-till drill with bad paint... coulter cady and all for $1,000.. but bought $500 in parts for it today. who said its expensive to start farming?
Heck Dale you sound about like us, we like fixing stuff up... to a point. Sound like you got a few good deals on a couple trucks. Sale this past spring had a 74 C65 with westfield auger went for 6,000, the 74 tandem right next to it with a 454 in it went for 4500.. We should've bought that tandem. Hindsight is 20/20 If it runs and lifts and hauls grain its worth a lot to us. Just got to like bleeding brakes once in awhile, cept our tandem with airbrakes.. :)
I bought a 66 chevy tandem a couple of years back (its the one in my pictures) that was a single owner truck before me. It had just been repainted, and I spent under $3500 on it. Oh and it had 67k original miles on it. It's paid for itself several times over the past few years. It holds around 500 bushel, roll tarp, etc. It has a second set of tip tops for it - but I've not put them on.....

I bought another 66 chevy tandem this spring. Its a Twin to the first one, except its a full size cap, while the other is a bit of a stubb nose (not a cabover, but a short hood). I couldn't pass it up being a twin to mine (seriously - who doesn't love twins? :) ) I would have got it at a steal price - but I worked the guy down an additional $900 bucks on it, so I'm not sure what you call something better than a steal.....
I like your grain truck, Craig. Looks like mine only I don't have tandem. I'll get some pics on here of mine when I get it out for fall harvest. Still contemplating the other 65 and trying to get a hold of the neighbor about renting some barn space for both of them. Hope it's still there!!!
Last Friday I took a phone call from a farmer in SW Minnesota who has a 1975 Ford F600 with 14' box and 4,000 ACTUAL MILES. Looking to sell. I'm going to try and swing by and shoot a Youtube video of this guy's F600 with 4,000 miles, should be fun.

Checked our web site, we've got (607) auction prices on Chevy C60's. Highest sale price I've seen so far this year was $7,900 for a 1974 C60 w/37K miles, single axle, 350, V8, 4/2 trans, 14' Knapheide box & hoist...sold 7/15/10 on auction in east-central North Dakota.....lot of strong sale prices coming out of North Dak. this summer.

I made the deal on Sunday, posted pics on here if you care to look. Nice old piece of iron.
Looks like a good one Daric, semis/trailors are over-rated unless you really need one, we don't haul much over 10 miles so a semi would be a bit ridiculous for us. I do see why the bigger ops need them. I just like our older trucks.
Two years ago i bought a 1968 gmc 9500 diesel. It has a 6-71 detroit, Has a 20 foot steel box and almost a brand new harsh hoist underneath it. Only paid 1000 dollars for the truck. The hoist itself was worth that. It was a steal

Mine was featured in "Machinery Pete" this past month.  It is a 1965 Chevy and I have photos of the day we brought it home.  I have it advertised for what his data base recommends, but would negotiate gladly for the best home for it.  In his article, it is named "Jenny".  It is a C60, 14ft. Midwest Bed and sounds a lot like your '66.  It was reblocked, so there are low miles on the engine.  I can send photos.

Thanks for any interest and pass it on!  Nancy Reed
