We bought our first Jersey dairy cow, and the lady we bought her from advised that drinking raw milk helped with allergies, from which my husband and I both suffer. Has anyone have experience of this ?
I have never heard of this with milk, but have heard of it with honey and people say it works. It is do to the honey being made from pollen that stirs up alot of allergies. Maybe there's something similar with milk from a cow that consumes those allergy plants as roughage. Something to consider.
Yep, I know about the honey / allergy link, and already use honey to dampen allergies. Actually was discussing with my husband yesterday, on tweaking recipes to use honey instead of sugar. I have a milk intolerance, and she advised that I should be OK with raw milk, and that it should actually help. I'm nervous to try, so wanted input from others who may have experience.
Raw milk will not help with a dairy allergy! The allergy is caused because your body does not produce the enzyme lactase which breaks down the milk protien lactose. The only way to get around this is to drink milk from a goat which does not contain lactose. I do not advise drinking raw milk unless you have been around dairy cows for awhile or you will be mildly ill for a while because your body does not contain antibodys for the bactria that a dairy cow normally carries
Drinking raw milk is like having a loaded gun lying around. If you have experience with guns, respect them, and know how to use them safely, you will be ok. If not, you might be ok this week, maybe next week, maybe next year, maybe forever, but it only takes once to kill you. Pasturize your milk! There are small batch pasturizers for sale, my grandma has one and paturizes our milk for our family and her own use.
Hey Cindy
I too have heard this. It's not gonna help all allergies but yes.....in my belief system it does help. Plus providing our bodies with "good" bacteria we all need. I know it sounds weird...but we use it and I believe it helps.
