The John Deere 1770 is a very good planter. That being said if you want to go with Trimble GPS then the Case will be more trouble free since you will buy the planter from the same dealer as the GPS. Not that you can't make the JD work with the Trimble it just doesn't work quite as nice as if you were to run the JD with the JD GPS.

Permalink Reply by ROD TANGEMAN (Tangeman Farms) on May 14, 2012 at 9:36am I don't know much about john deere i think they have a good planter, we have one customer we sell seed to that was having trouble with his though, because the air tube coming into the meter makes a 90 degree turn and the seed was holding up their but they do a nice job of planting. I think if i was going john deere i would match it with the green star stuff it would be easier and cause a lot less headaches if you need service because you have john deere. We run a white central fill 8824 row planter love the planter but are not to crazy about the trimble fmx monitor, i like the insight and integra alot better it is just simple and alot of ppl to talk to if your having trouble, with trimble don't count on service talking from experience. We ran a case for a long time i think they have the best closing system on the market and gage wheels and row unit pretty low matience. We also run a 16 31 row kinze and we really like that planter the old precision kinze finger pickup and bean meter are pretty easy and plant accurate where all the other take some fine tuning with air pressure or vacum. The vacum planters really take alot of hydralics capacity to run that's why we went with white and whites meter is just simple and accurate, but all of the planters are if take the time to set them.
