Farmers || Future

I had a great few days last week traveling with a group of reporters from Brazil, who have been here for about a week while we're on our fall leg of the 2009 Crop Tech Tour. They're here to visit farms and get a feel for how harvest is going here, as well as learn a little more about the technology U.S. farmers are using to raise their crops.

So, I met up with our group last week in Iowa City, and on Thursday, we traveled to southeast Iowa where we met up with Rachel and Nathan Fishback at their farm near Washington, Iowa. I just want you two to know how grateful I am for everything you did for us while we were there. Our friends from Brazil had a great visit and enjoyed meeting everybody you invited. So did I!

Then, we headed down the road to the farm of Erin Capps' family near Pekin, Iowa. While the weather was about as cold and crummy as it could have been, we had a great visit. They are great farmers!

We made our way through northern Missouri Friday, then braved the snow to visit a farm and the grain processing facilities near Eddyville, Iowa, on Saturday morning. Our friends from Brazil were very surprised by the snow. One fellow told me he hadn't had snow where he lives since 1975!

So, it was a great time, and all thanks to some great farmers who took time out during their busiest time of the year to visit with us. Thanks, Rachel, Nathan and Erin and everybody else who we talked with last week! You guys made my job easy!

You can see more from our trip, which is moving east into Indiana tomorrow, at the Crop Tech Tour page here. We'll be adding more features throughout the week and next week.

Hope everybody's staying warm and dry today!

Good hustle......making our industry proud!

That is great, as farmers we need to show others how proud we are of what we do (not just on an international level but a domestic level too). How many people in town know what we do to feed them? Most people just know food comes from a supermarket.
